Heh, funny thing.. i just realised that i've always thought of Mandos as an old man.. until now. I wonder why, since the Valar don't age.. aaanyways, this is very cool! I like his solemn expression intense gaze and you've done great work with the skin tones. The mouth looks great too. Great portrait.

If i may suggest something, the only thing that i would still change would be the levels inside the frame a bit.. let the background be a little darker, make it fade almost to black in the corners -- that would add some depth and also fix the only thing that slightly sticks out: the hourglass (at the moment there's a bit too much contrast between it and the bg, both with lighness and saturation, so it look a little "pasted".. should be easy to fix, though)

Ah well infact the bubbles of the hourglass are pasted on. But they're pasted from an image I made myself but I wasn't sure how to blend them so that I got the crisp look of glass without it being such a dodgy shape. Alas I've already subbed it to the club so its too late to make any changes to it now. But I will bear that in mind for the next piece I do. Thanks for the comment

Actually i think the bubbles look quite fine; the main problem i think is that the wooden part is too saturated in comparison to the very monochromatic background hue. That and some more light/shadow contrast between the bg and the hair to add a little depth and it's perfect.. these are very minor points though, so i don't think it's success in the Valar competition will depend on those too much. I just thought i'd point them out if it helps.
